Webinar: Challenging Racism Systemically in the South

This webinar helps participants get familiar with the different levels of racism and operate from a proactive and explicit racial justice framework. We take a systematic approach to addressing racism, focusing on root causes of inequity, and looking for practical solutions participants can advance. Participants will interact with key concepts, learn about systems analysis, and identify ways to apply racial justice concepts and skills in social change efforts in the South.

Workshop: Racial Justice Leadership Institute for Arts and Cultural Organizations
September 18-19, 2013

The arts/culture training enhances participants’ understanding of structural racism and creates a space to explore various tools and frameworks that align with a vision of racial justice in our institutions, social policies and cultural life. The training is 1.5 days and participants must plan to attend the entire training, as each piece builds on the previous segments. Participants will learn key concepts in structural racism, including the difference between diversity, equality and equity, the definition and role of implicit bias, the four levels of racism and the importance of integrating political and cultural strategies to achieve racial justice.  Participants will practice identifying and addressing racial inequity in local arts and culture systems and institutions, and work through a series of case studies to help them develop and articulate concrete strategies for implementing racial equity projects.

Training participants will learn about key concepts on structural racism, practice framing education issues with racial justice lens, and develop and test compelling stories on racial dynamics in public education.

In this next installment of DFR Racial Justice Leadership Training Turner4D will provide a two-and-a-half hour earned media training for DFR partners. This training is designed to prepare participants for interviews or public speaking engagements. It will help you identify, hone and deliver your messages in one-on-one and team settings. It will help you understand your rights as a news source, craft key messages for a program, issue or project, and deliver their messages effectively – even during a crisis.

Turner4D will provide a two and a half hour social media training for DFR partners. The training will include information on why social media should be part of an organization’s integrated communication and advocacy strategy. Additionally, it will include specific practical tools and tips on how to successfully use the various social media channels, and especially twitter and Facebook, how to create and curate meaningful content, how to engage with audiences through various social media channels and how to leverage social media for advocacy. Finally, it will include a specific hands-on exercise on how to use social media. Participants are encouraged to bring their mobile or laptop devices.
